Park Rx: Patient Mobile App

How can a nature prescription become sustained care rather than a one-time interaction?

As a developer on Hack4Impact Cornell’s Park Rx team, I am helping build a patient-facing mobile app for Park Rx America, a nonprofit that enables health professionals to prescribe time outdoors. The app is designed for patients who already have a provider-issued nature prescription, giving them a supportive way to follow through without collecting unnecessary protected health information.

01The prescription-linking flow connects a patient to an existing provider-issued prescription without asking them to recreate sensitive health information.
  1. 01Build a secure prescription-linking flow that lets patients connect the app to an existing provider-issued prescription using a unique code.
  2. 02Develop the core post-visit experience: logging outdoor visits, reviewing visit history, and carrying forward the prescription’s reminder cadence through privacy-conscious notifications.
  3. 03Integrate educational content explaining the health rationale behind time outdoors and design milestone acknowledgements that encourage follow-through without creating an addictive engagement loop.
  4. 04Work within the existing provider–patient relationship and Park Rx America’s privacy constraints, keeping self-prescriptions and unnecessary health data outside the project’s scope.
