AI, Copyright & Substantial Similarity

How should courts reason about similarity when creative work and generative AI meet?

As part of Cornell’s Laboratory for Rational Decision Making, I work on the Neuro, Psychology, and Law team studying the “science of substantial similarity” in AI-related copyright litigation. The project is supported by the Institute for Trustworthy AI in Law & Society (TRAILS).

  1. 01Connect legal standards with empirical research on perception and decision-making.
  2. 02Study how people recognize, compare, and judge similarity.
  3. 03Translate interdisciplinary findings into questions that matter for emerging AI disputes.
